Œnosylva is expanding its range of barrel inserts with the introduction of thicker formats. Designed to give barrels that have already been used for two or more wines a second life, these inserts promote the slow and progressive extraction of oak compounds, contributing to a broader aromatic profile and improved balance on the palate.
Extending the Oenological Potential of Barrels
Designed particularly for barrels that have already been used for two or more wines, Œnosylva inserts help renew the interaction between oak and wine once the barrel has released much of its potential during previous ageing cycles.
These thicker inserts promote the slow and gradual release of oak compounds throughout the ageing process. They also deliver a significant improvement in quality compared with thinner formats. This phenomenon has historically been observed in tank ageing when comparing thin and thick staves.
With a recommended contact time of 6 to 12 months, their use can be adapted to specific oenological objectives and the wine’s development, regularly monitored through tasting.
Structure, Texture and Aromatic Complexity
Œnosylva inserts influence several sensory characteristics:
- Structure and texture: refinement of tannins, enhanced richness, volume and length on the palate.
- Balance: development of roundness and a smooth, generous mouthfeel.
- Aromatic expression: enrichment of the aromatic profile, with the development of subtle and complex toasted notes.
They therefore provide a valuable tool for fine-tuning the ageing process and offer greater flexibility in blending, while respecting the wine’s natural fruit expression.
Two Ranges, Two Toasting Techniques
Œnosylva inserts are available in two ranges, each characterised by a distinct toasting process:
- CLASSIC: deep-through toasting, available in three intensities: light, medium and long.
- FLAVORS: convection toasting, available in three intensities: light, medium and medium-long.
Each range is available in two modules, providing the equivalent of 37% or 75% new oak contribution*, allowing winemakers to tailor oak integration to their desired wine profiles.
*Compared with a new 225 L barrel.
These solutions are suitable for red, white and rosé wines, from alcoholic fermentation through to the ageing process.
Oak Expertise Dedicated to Wine Ageing
Made from stave-quality oak, naturally seasoned outdoors for a minimum of 20 months, Œnosylva inserts reflect a commitment to raw material quality and technical precision.
Their use also helps extend the service life of existing barrel stocks and control ageing costs, while maintaining high quality standards.
With these new inserts, Œnosylva offers a solution combining controlled oak extraction, oenological balance and the sustainable use of existing barrels.
An innovation designed to meet the evolving expectations and needs of today’s market.
